At the COMMUNICATION CENTER, we provide hearing aid evaluations and dispense hearing aids for pediatric through geriatric patients. We have a wide range of manufacturers we deal with depending on the hearing and communication needs of the patient. During the hearing aid evaluation, we determine if personal amplification is an option for the patient. The advantages and disadvantages of personal amplification are discussed. Prior to recommending a specific hearing aid, the patient/parent is educated on what products or features are available. We will discuss any limitation and personal preferences of the patient regarding manipulation or appearance of the hearing aid. Then, specific recommendations are made. Extensive counseling is provided in dealing with the physical limitation of hearing aids, a hearing loss, or benfits/limitations of hearing aids, in addition to the emotional difficulties which may arise from a perceived disability. We instruct on expectations of hearing aids, how to use and care for them, and how to manipulate them in the ears. We are successful in hearing aid fit when the patient or the family is self-sufficient in the use and care of the device(s).
