'PLAY & SAY' Early Intervention Language Group for 18-36 month olds |
'PLAY & SAY' is a play group for parents and their children with language delays. Parents learn how to help their children improve receptive and expressive language through structured, sequential play involving hands-on activities for learning. Children learn to meet teacher expectations for attention, listening, behavior and language. Children and parents move from one play station to the next participating in activities for improving listening, imitation, understanding and language use. A variety of listening tasks include speech, song, music and rhythym providing opportunities for increasing memory of, and familiarity with, a range of language skills. Parents learn to assist and challenge their children in language play and to incorporate languages into everyday activities. Strategies and techniques for language stimulation are explained, demonstrated and incorporated into play activities, Parent worksheets review lessons and provide activities for home. PLAY & SAY is small group therapy for 2-8 children. Language is adapted to the child's level. Groups are integrated. This means children with typically developing language are included to provide good language models. This group is led by a Speech-Language Pathologist. |

'PLAY & SAY' is a therapy group for children with language delays. Parent participation is optional. Children improve receptive, expressive and pragmatic (social) language through structured, sequential, interactive play involving hands-on activites for learning. Therapy addresses goals and objectives for attention, listening, behavior and language. Children participate in activities for improving listening, attention, imitation, cooperation, understanding and use of language. Listening tasks include speech, conversation, song, music and rhythym. Materials and activites incorporate large and small motor activities. Language is adapted to the child's level. Parent participation is encouraged, but is optional. Parent worksheets review lessons and provide activites for home. Strategies and techniques for language stimulation are explained, demonstrated and incorporated into play activites. Small group language therapy for 2 to 4 children is offered as a CPSE related service. This group is led by a Speech-Language Pathologist. SPEECH THERAPY refers to articulation (speech sound) development and is provided in individual therapy sessions. |
